It sounds very much like a tongue-tie. Have you lifted the tongue up with a
finger underneath? Or even sweep the finger under the tongue...you can
often feel the string more easily than you can see it.
That flat back of the palate is often associated with tongue-tie, because
the tongue is not able to "lift" high enough to shape the palate into the
usual rounded shape.
Ideas:
Clip tongue-tie if present...even a small one!
Electric heating pad on "low" setting for 10-15 minutes after nursing every
time. (It does not help to do it once in a while, or wait for pain.)
Nipple shield-to help hold nipple farther back in baby's mouth if it is
slipping forward from tongue problem.
