I am sharing this information for those Lactnetters who were unable to
listen to Director Mary Alexander on the air last Friday.
Are there other coalitions offering support for breastfeeding women and
children at their county or state fairs?

I am writing from Indianapolis, Indiana about our activities for World
Breastfeeding Week and Breastfeeding Awareness Month.
This is the 150th Anniversary of the Indiana State Fair, Aug. 9-20, 2006 and
the FIRST year an area will be provided for breastfeeding mothers.
This August, the Indiana Mothers' Milk Bank, Inc. in partnership with the
Indiana Perinatal Network, Clarian Women's Services, La Leche League and The
Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
are providing an area at the Indiana State Fair for breastfeeding mothers in
conjunction with World Breastfeeding Week and Indiana Breastfeeding
Awareness Month. The Lactation Station will provide nursing mothers with a
comfortable, private place to breastfeed as well as information about the
benefits of breastfeeding and pasteurized donor human milk. The area will
have rocking chairs to relax in while nursing, breast pumps for visitors and
staff, fans, and water.
In addition to the breastfeeding tent, we will have (6) 20 ft. signs
promoting breastfeeding on one of the Fair shuttles. Inside the shuttle,
small signs will direct mothers to our breastfeeding tent, "Lactation
Station." All of the artwork for the tent banner, shuttle boards,
volunteer t-shirts, and stickers was donated by Lamar Advertising.
Lamar Advertising has provided three (3) billboards for the Indiana Mothers'
Milk Bank, Inc. in the Indianapolis area to promote our organization, year
round. For Breastfeeding Awareness Month each billboard will have a
temporary sash informing the community that it is Breastfeeding Awareness
Month. Lamar Advertising is also providing eight billboards in southern
Indiana (Evansville) and eight billboards in northern Indiana (Gary) at cost
to promote Breastfeeding Awareness Month.
