The Labor of birth is the normal human condition, though it may occasionally
need help if people are impatient. I fully understood labor as work on the
part of the mother. I find it interesting, Dr. Sanghavi being a
pediatrician, his not viewing it from the newborn perspective: a baby needs
its mother to be able to use all her senses to give birth and then
breastfeed to ensure they bond and survive.
Besides his Boston Globe column, he contributes to NPR & Parents Magazine.
I wonder why he included the formula bag controversy: In May,
Massachusetts's public health commissioner reversed a prohibition on
hospital giveaways of infant formula, after months of fighting between
supporters of breast-feeding and advocates of formula and a free market. So
he equates formula bags with free market choice vs pain control choice?
