Hello Lactnet!
I just subscribed a few days ago and have been trying just to catch up
reading all the mail. My husband is the computer buff and he is away x 10
days, so I will not figure anything out until then. My name is Laurie
Wheeler. I'm an RN with a master's degree in parent-child health nursing,
many years experience in NICU (now retired from that) and couple years ago
did the IBCLC. I work very part time as an LC in a teaching hospital, seeing
well newborns, NICU, PICU pts. I also teach CPR at another hospital
2x/month.
Had a private practice and small rental station before baby #2 came along, so
I don't do that anymore. I do belong to an ILCA affiliate (LLCA) but have not
made many meetings because have young children.
My kids are 5 year old Greg (almost 6) and 10 month old Emily, still nursing.
Greg weaned at 9 1/2 months, much to my disappointment, but in retrospect
maybe it was a nursing strike and I didn't recognize it. Made alot of
mistakes with him. At that time thought that 9 mos was a long time to be
breastfeeding! Didn't know anyone longer than that. What a difference 5
years make. Of course, I'm still learning and Lactnet is great as I am out
of the professional mainstream of LC work because of primary job "mothering."
Sorry so long-winded.
Laurie Wheeler, Rnc, Mn, Ibclc

P.S. I like when writers sign there name and credentials and city. Helpful
til I get to know everyone.
