I had the most painful MER with my daughter--I had never experienced it
with my older son, nor did I later with my youngest. My daughter is
also the only one with whon I had an oversupply. This was thirteen
years ago and when she was several months old, I saw my naturopath for
an unrelated reason. My doctor told me that I needed to take magnesium
and within a short time the MER was no longer painful, nor was the
initial MER any longer drowning my daughter. Since then, I have told
scores of mothers about using mag and many have reported good results.
It makes perfect sense when you consider that the ducts are surrounded
by smooth muscle and while we think that calcium deficiency is the
cause of muscle spasm, it is actually most often a mag deficiency.
