Good Evening All

I hope that we can agree to disagree ion some issues in this forum.

I have great respect for many of the contributors to this thread. Although
I can hear your stories, I personally have not seen a really convincing
argument to do pre and post weights of babies. I am still yet to find
anything that really lets me know how to correctly interpret the data
gathered with the scales. There has been even less discussion about what to
do about the findings e.G. How much to suggest that the mother compliment
the breastfeeds when all the evidence (output, behaviour during and after
feeds, baby presentation, growth history (yep - general weight gains and
head circumference and body length) points to inadequate intake and/or low
supply especially in light of the huge variation in intake that can normally
occur.

For those of you that find pre and post weights a good tool to confirm your
suspicions of inadequate intake - I am glad you have found a way to be
confident in your assessments. I personally would need to see far more
cases and research in how to interpret the data and how to use the data that
has been gathered. I just hope that some of you can see the points of view
of those of us that do not do pre and post weights. It is clear that some
of us hold very strong views about weighing. I think that we just need to
accept that some find scales useful and reassuring - others do not.

I am little concerned that some people feel that they have to convince other
readers that they are right. In my opinion, wisdom is a learnt from life
experience. It is learnt by sharing stories, by personal experience and by
questioning oneself and others. It is learnt by keeping an open mind. What
is wise in one location is not wise in another. I have seen people
transplant some things that have been absolutely wonderful for a community
into another and it has been disastrous. The reason have most often been
not appreciating the culture and values of others. Please - let us not make
the same mistake.

Kind regards
