As to the mom whose baby has been diagnosed with colitis--I would have
to agree with Jenny that the mom may have misunderstood or just
assumed that lactose is the culrpit, b/c it is a term people are
familiar with. No doubt, this is a protein response. I think it is
essential that this mom understands two things--first that there is
absolutely evidence that removing the offending food is not only
helpful but essential--BTW, it is also common sense. Secondly, she
needs to be evaluated herself, b/c it is rare for a baby to have such a
response if his mother does not have poor gut helath herself. That's
how all of those large protein molecules make it into her bloodstream
in the first place--through her leaky gut. Considering her diet, it is
no wonder. I have beern working with moms on treating both over and
undersupply bu healing their own guts--it is a process, but well worth
it for everyone.
One last note--elimination seems to be the final step for a lot of
folks, which is why so many moms spend their lives chasing after
allergens. You MUST heal the gut, It can happen on its own, but that
can take years if it ever happens--using probiotocs, enzynes and other
supplements and herbs, as well as adunct therapies in serious cases is
critical. Someone needs to get through to this mom as to just how
important her own choices are to this child's long-term health and
well-being.
