A few examples of times when I had to unfortunately discharge a patient
from my practice:
1. Husband of a patient harassed, cursed my staff by phone for several
hours. Protecting my staff (and the wife and her kids) from him was my
primary concern. I can't afford to have good staff quit because I let our
families treat them terrible. This was a case far beyond just routine
complaining or public relations.
2. Failure to show up and appropriately cancel appointments, repeatedly.
3. Failure for the patient to meet their financial responsibility, after
months.
I am more than happy to present a variety of treatment approaches/options to
patients.
But it is usually an administrative breech that results in discharging them
from my practice.
Respectfully,
Denise Punger MD FAAFP IBCLC (who hasn't posted in a looong time)
