I have seen a tenfold increase in "GERD" since the back to sleep/SIDS
program began. We all would have stomach problems if we layed on our backs
after eating a meal! Babies NEED tummy time!!

Ellen, I actually tried to pull together a research project on this very
notion. I was going to use a large HMO here in the Boston area to review the
diagnostic code of GERD in babies. Looking at a 10 year window prior to the
"back to sleep" campaign" and then the years since it was promoted.
I was sent on to some GI doctors who basically told me there was no interest
in this.
Maybe others could muster this up.
I always tell parents that tummy time is important after feedings. Just
never leave your baby while doing this.
