What is the name of Kathleen Huggins breastfeeding store? How is it doing?
I am still so on the fence about this... been wanting to do it for years but
so much holding me back -- like fear of overhead, fear of how do I still care
for my 8 year old twins while "minding the store", how do I keep it
responsibly staffed so that I can get away with family at times, what will it be like
to not be able to throw dinner in the oven while still working (as I do now
in my home), how do I do a decent consult while potentially "waiting on
customers", what do I do with the mother who calls at 8 p.m. on Saturday night,
etc, etc. I know the business/retailing end because that was my original field
of work, been IBCLC for ten years so I have a grip on that, but it is the
logistics and the money flow that intimidate me. So, I think about this a lot
and now I hear that a store just like this is about to open about 45 minutes
away from me by a mother of a new baby and her friend -- neither IBCLC's.
They are looking to hire IBCLC's. Bummer. I have been long since mesmerized by
The Upper Breast Side and the amazing job Felina does and also interested in
the very controversial Isis in Boston. Then too, there is the moral and soul
side of IBCLC that tugs at my heart reminding me that really -- a woman
needs nothing but her breasts to breastfeed, so can I hawk wares with a
conscience? I mean this with all due respect to those of us who are currently selling
breastfeeding products. Also, my husband is about to open a food related
business and can a struggling family really handle two owned and operated
businesses simultaneously? So, there you are -- my thoughts on paper waiting for
your feedback. Thanks, Ann in PP currently operating out of my dining room
doing home visits.
