I am wondering what advances if any, we have made in this frustrating arena.
Since my clients pay me and wander off with their ICD9CM codes sheet in
hand, I really don't find out whether they are getting any reimbursement or not.
I have just gotten off the phone with BCBS and was told clearly they do not
reimburse for breast pump rentals, despite my explanation of "medical
equipment." Yes, they do reimburse for other such things as nebulizers, etc.
Under provider info on their website when I enter any of the codes I have, all of
them are unrecognized (including Failure to Gain Weight, Breastmilk
Jaundice, etc.). So, I wonder, where to we begin to unravel this and help get
insurance companies to recognize these expenses. What a world of difference this
would make, particularly to those of us in private practice. Thanks, Ann
