Permission to post from a 32 yr old mother with a 7 week babe who came to
The Baby Cafe finding BF to be so painful due to superficial veins on
breast and areola. One runs right in at nipple/areola junction on R
breast. The veins are very noticeable but not enlarged, red or ropey, do
not appear varicosed just exquisitely tender to touch and she describes
feeling pain directly over the veins during feeds. She has been using a
nipple shield which reduces the pain slightly. Usually once a day she
expresses and bottle feeds EBM as she just can't tolerate another feed.
Would be grateful for suggstions to help this mother. Can you please e-
mail me privately as on Lactnet Digest. TIA
