Oh Nikki....
I'm so glad this couple found you to help support them. Unfortunately, you are very much right on about the overall state of labor and delivery units in our nation's hospitals. At my hospital there is an epidemic of unecessary inductions, an out of control c-section rate, and so on and so on. And I don't think my hospital is out of step with the rest of the nation. In fact, our c-section rate is actually LOWER than the current national rate! (I was stunned).........Even sadder is the fact that I am now amazed when I encounter a mom who has delivered twins vaginally at our L&D center. How sad is that!??
If you see this couple again, give them a hug from me, and tell them how proud I am of their desire to do the right thing for them against so many odds.
Warmly,
Sandey Stayanoff RN, IBCLC
