Please Note: Purple Top blood collection tubes, even infant ones, have EDTA in them. It is a blood anticoagulant. The tubes should be labeled with EDTA or K3. The amount in an infant tube is small because there is an appropriate ratio of anticoagulant to blood so testing in the laboratory can be performed adequately. You may not be able to see it, but it is there!
Please be careful to check labels! These should not be used for collection and storage of breastmilk/colostrum. I am not certain of the consequences if this is given to a baby - you might want to check with the poison control center.
Sincerely,

-------------- Original message > One can collect expressed colostrum using a syringe right at breast. I
had success yesterday using infant blood collection tubes; these were purple topped and were empty. The top makes a lovely stopper.
