I'm pretty stumped and wonder if anyone else has had a situation like
this. Mom has given me permission to ask around about her situation.
She's breastfeeding her third baby and never had this problem with
her other 2. At about 2 1/2 months she had an area of one breast get
very sore and tender. No lumps, redness or temp elevation or other
mastitis sx's. It went away after about 3 days, but then returned in
the other breast. It went away for a few days, then came back in the
first breast, but a different area. She went to her doc and she sent
her to me. By then it had gotten better, so when I saw her it wasn't
occurring.
Baby chews a bit, but I really don't think that is the cause because
it didn't happen for the first couple months. Mom describes it as a
burning feeling - but it's in the breast and not the nipple and it
oly occurs in a quadrant, yet it moves around, so it's not always the
same quadrant. She says it is really tender when it occurs, last for
about 3 days and will be gone for several days.
There was nothing at the consult that jumped out at me. We adjusted
the position a bit, but again, I didn't think that should be causing
this problem.
I spoke to our breast health specialist, and it didn't ring any bells
for her. She looked up breast pain and thought maybe it sounded like
duct ectasia which requires antibiotics.
Any thoughts?
I'm nomail, so please send any responses to my email.
Thanks.
