Dear Friends:
Today I saw this dyad in the hospital.
He is much better; he is now allowed to go to breast for a half-hour
every three hours, and MUST be supplemented after each feed.
Fortunately, his mother has a huge supply, so he can be supplemented
with her milk.
He was having some tachypneic (fast-breathing) episodes at breast
yesterday; I didn't see any of that today. He is still on antibiotics.
He gets very stressed waiting for 3 hours. The NICU staff has taped a
pacifier to a infant shirt, to help hold it in his mouth. I wonder if anyone
even thinks about the impact of this practice on parental learning.
warmly,
