Why is this mother being encouraged to stop breastfeeding? Children with
Alagille syndrome often fail to thrive due to reduced fat soluble
vitamin and reduced fat absorption. The baby could get extra medium
chain triglycerides and vitamins through a nasogastric or gastrostomy
tube to help improve growth if breastfeeding is not sufficient. If the
baby can suck well, then the supplements can be given through a tube at
the breast.
