Appropriate scales for LC use has been discussed on Lactnet before with
names and places to find them. I have used both the Tanita BLB 12 and
the Medela Baby Weigh. They are the same scale. Some of the buttons are
a bit different but Tanita makes both. I rented my scale from a pump
dealer for a while and this was the cheapest way to start out. She
rented to me for her cost plus tax and I referred moms to her business
as a thank you. Later I could not get Medela to sell me a scale as an
individual (and I didn't want to ask my pump dealer friend to sell me
this at her cost) and the retail prices were way too high so I bought a
Tanita new off the internet for $800. My WIC office later decided to buy
the LCs scales and they went to Tanita also for the lower price. I find
them similar and each has it's little quirks. The Tanita instruction
booklet is written in kind of bad English but if you have used the BW,
they are so similar. My main deal was not wanting to pay what I felt was
too high of a price for the one brand. You will have to decide which way
you want to go, both have equal merit, they are essentially the same scale.
