Been reading papers on diabetes and breastfeeding tonight and came across some preliminary results from the TRIGR study. I know that researchers have successfuly coopted LCs to recruit women for this study with the idea that it will show that breastfeeding reduces the risk of a child developing diabetes. Make no mistake, this study is a formula trial and already some publications are questioning the value of breastfeeding for these women (you know the milk of diabetic mothers can make their babies obese).
The purpose of this study is not to look at the impact of breastfeeding on the development of diabetes in genetically susceptible babies, they have no breastfeeding control! The purpose is for the manufacturer of the infant formula (provided free to mothers) to make money!
