hmmm, I'm not personally involved in the nurse-in effort in San Diego but
am privy to their fervent posts. I also thought that the exact
circumstances were not very powerful abuses (albeit incredibly rude and
ignorant) but I do see that these moms're just trying to raise awareness
for the employees of VS and elsewhere who don't know any better. I don't
know how else employees would hear about the issue. I doubt that employers
add bf-friendliness to their regualr new-employee training.
There's so much energy going into this effort that I feel remiss to try to
suggest to them that they call it off...??? especially since it's going
on around the nation whether it's called off in SD or not. I hear that
Mothering's chat boards are abuzz, altho I haven't seen them.
When California lawmakers were gathering to make laws about homebirthing &
midwives, we absolutely overwhelmed them with nursing moms and other
homebirth family members and supporters and the message proved very
powerful and effective. It was amazing to see some of the black-suited
doctors staring at breastfeeders as if they had never seen it or known how
it worked before (and that was probably the case). I know this is a
different circumstance, but...
