If you live in Mississippi, have relatives there, or are a professional who would like to write, pleae do so. This is ongoing battle in getting BF in public legislation passed--there's always a female legislator who wants "discrete" writting in. I was asked to pass this on. Melissa Vance, JD, LLLL
The Senate bill (S.B. 2419) passed 51-0. The House passed its version (H.B. 527) on Wednesday, 2/8/06 and unfortunately Rep. Rita Martinson added the following amendment.:A mother may breast-feed her child in any location, public or private, where the mother is otherwise authorized to be, without respect to whether the mother's breast or any part of it is covered during or incidental to the breast-feeding providing there is appropriate discretion used. The Senate bill (S.B. 2419), which is the original bill, is the preferred bill. Therefore, I am asking everyone to email Rep. Edward Blackmon, Chair of the House Judiciary A, and Rep. Frances Fredericks, Vice Chair, Public Health, to denounce/reject the House Bill 527 and express strong support and preference for the Senate bill.
