I'm not gonna waste my three daily messages so am combining topics today.
1) I totally agree with Pam Hirsch; that the message we are sending by giving all the gadgets and gimmicks imply that moms need them. Isn't that why we don't want formula samples given? Because it implies that mom needs them or will want to use them? What's wrong with an empty bag? Or a nice water bottle or large cup? (I joined Weight Watcher's just to get the cool mug for water - OK I should lose weight, too).

2) A baby with cardiac issues NEEDS more calories because he or she is using energy at a higher metabolic rate. Of course this baby is not gaining well, of course he is "unsettled." Perhaps "lactoengineering" to obtain hindmilk or pumping after a feeding to get hindmilk for a supplement would be a good idea.

3) I also received the Second Nature mailing and look forward to testing the bottle. I bought one last year for a talk I gave on nipples and bottles and latching and thought it worked pretty well.
