Diane Spatz has done some great research here at the Univ. of PA School of
Nursing. In what I believe is an as-yet-unpublished piece, she found that
mothers of pre-termers who are using accurate scales at home *really liked
them.*
These moms were part of a group getting intensive lactation follow-up care.
These were babies who were in the see-saw transition period where one
feeding might be great; the next a snooze-fest.
The moms said the scale allowed them to know, with greater certainty, how
much post-nursing supplementing (of expressed milk) and subsequent pump use
had to be going on.
