The autoimmune issues are probably a red herring. To be sure the diagnosis
is insufficient glandular tissue a TSH, testosterone, prolactin and Hcg levels
should be ordered. HAve mom try a 24 mm nipple shield with the SNS tube
placed about 3-4 mm through one of the openings on the tip of the shield.
Mom should be applauded for all her efforts. 9 ounces is definately worth
it--its more than 30% of her infants food--if you could only provide your child
with one well rounded home cooked meal per day, isn't that better than fast
food all day long?
Also, she might want to focus on acknowledging herself for doing everything
she could (and doing the best she can) to provide her baby with the healthiest
start that SHE could given with the barriers she has had to overcome. Put
another way although she may not be able to provide a 100%, she is giving it a
150%. Knowing and acknowledging this should give her some peace of mind as well.
