5 or more x/day??? Wow, thats a lot. Most people start solids once then twice
then 3 times if they were previously bottle feeding they decrease number of
bottles from about 8 to 5/day to 3 or 4. I had a friend who was unhappy with
frequent breastfeeding, she was very happy when she started solids to replace
even one feeding, eventually the baby was taking a large volume (2 jars/feed)
of solids although probably given in 3 meals, by 10 months she got
pregnant and
he very quickly self weaned- oh don't forget that at the time of solid feeding
most parents also start juice (I don't reccomend juice but never the
less thats
the practice)
Amy Kotler MD FAAP
pedi and mom to now 2
daughter refused solids until 15 mo when fed self with fork and spoon
son doubled birth weight on exclusive BF prior to 4 mo and started
solids early
(embarrassed to say when) but still BF at least 10x/ day and throughout night,
stools still smell sweet too!
incidently both started solids when weighed about 18-20 pounds!
