This is purely anecdotal.
After I had my first, I quickly lost weight. I *thought* I was eating well,
both in terms of quality and quantity. The reality was that I was not
eating sufficient quantity to slow down or stop the weight loss. I have
observed this with other women, too. Stress often plays a factor, as does
worrying about how quickly one is losing weight.
She may want to have more than just TSH checked, just to be sure there
aren't any medical factors. I had to think more about what I ate, and that
seemed to do the trick. My perception of what I was eating did not match
the reality of what I was eating. I was frequently distracted, and wouldn't
finish the sandwich I began but still somehow thought I'd had a sandwich for
lunch. I also found that I just didn't have much appetite until about 6
months postpartum. That may well have been stress induced, as I returned to
work and had much internal conflict over doing so.
This happened with my first two children. By the time I had my third,
having two children around who needed frequent feeding "cured" me. <VBG>
