Hi, I'm hoping someone has their finger on a ready source for some
breastfeeding statistics for babies (preemies) in the NICU. I'm looking for
statistics in the United States or even in particular states or hospitals.
I've searched the archives and found mention of a couple of programs
designed to encourage breastfeeding in mothers of babies in the NICU
(example is the one at Rush in Chicago), but not rates of success. Dr.
Wight's informative 2003 article "Breastfeeding the Borderline (Near-Term)
Preterm Infant" outlines some of the challenges and responses to problems
encountered with the near-term infant. I'm curious what the statistics are
for near-term and preemie babies. The issue is a broad one, but I suspect
that there are some particular problems within the NICU that are easier to
overcome than others. Can anyone share their tips?
