I am posting on behalf of my friend and fellow lactnetter Vicki Hayes. You
may remember some of her postings about her new baby Lachlan, who in the first
few weeks of his life had a very infrequent stooling pattern.
This morning as she was driving her boys to school, six week old Lachlan
was in his car seat and didn't sound quite right. Vicki pulled her car over and
took him out of the car seat and found him cyanotic, limp and working very
hard to breathe. The baby was immediately taken to the ER by the medics, where
his O2 sats were in the 60's. With excellent care, he began to improve
fairly quickly. His O2 sats and vital signs immediately improved once Vicki was
able to hold and nurse him.
The doctor called this an apparent life threatening event. His RSV test is
negative and all of his labs are looking good this evening. His O2 sats
periodically drop, Vicki puts him to breast and it gets better!
They are in the hospital tonight. I'm sure Vicki would appreciate your
thoughts and prayers. . She is such a wonderful mom. Nursing this little guy in
the face of a crisis like this and seeing it have such an immediate positive
effect on his condition is such a blessing.
She'll write more about the experience when she is able.
