I agree, c/s babies and moms DO need additional support, and c/s babies
have an even greater need for mothers milk that vag babies because their
stomachs are not properly colonized during the trip down the birth canal.
I can personally attest to VBAC as the way to go! After a 32 week c/s for
PIH, and a miserable failure and nursing a 4# baby (multiple reasons for
that failure, primariy lack of educated people to help me), I had a
successful VBAC and very successful 19 months of nursing. I also agree
that the "trial of labor" felt very much like the real thing, too -
Especially the part with the forceps and (my choice) no anesthesia. It
saddens me to see the medical community moving away from VBACs because of
fear of legal repercussion, but that's what seems to be happening.

Debra Ray, RNC, IBCLC
