"Around here, if a patient is non-compliant, a physician has the right
to terminate care."

What a loaded statement! Anyone who thinks is an exaggeration, I can
tell you it is not. Does anyone wonder why women have the births they
do and why babies can't breastfeed? How can anyone make this statement
and at the same time argue that women are "forcing" doctors into giving
them medicalized births? In this environment, if the doctor believes
that intervention is unecessary and risky, then wouldn't he have a lot
of power to force her compliance? How can it be both ways? It seems to
me that this statement, more than any other, clarifies where the power
lies, unless a mother is very strong and willing to stay out of the
medical model completely.
