I have observed this in multips.  Often wondered, no real science here. 
Some women who seem to have a healthy supply and or engorgement, quick 
gaining infants with or without infant showing signs of oversupply, 
displaying minimal duct involvement with MER.  I wonder if the Mom's body 
is protecting the infant from being flooded (wouldn't that be cool) by 
some "sensor".
