"Firing" may have been a poor choice of words. Any physician can send a
patient a letter informing that person that the MD (or practice) can no
longer provide care for that person. Because this particular patient had
been so difficult and confrontational during her prenatal (and post partum
care)and was unwilling to go along with the guidelines the practice felt
were necessary for the safe care of her and the baby, and because this
person gave all the physicians and CNM's in that group a hard time and
because she had been so difficult for all of us nurses to care for, the
practice finished her PP visit and wrote her a letter telling her that
they would no longer care for her and that she would have to find a new
physician(s).
Around here, if a patient is non-compliant, a physician has the right to
terminate care.
I guess the point might be that both the medical professional and the
client are accountable.
