Hi, All: Formula diaper bags are critized in the lactation community
because of the message it sends: "just in case breastfeeding doesn't
work...". In reading the posts of those of you who have listed things put
into breastfeeding diaper bags, I'm a little concerned about the message
those bags are giving. Lansinoh, breast pads, mother's milk tea, coupon
for free pump rental...Does this mean that a breastfeeding mother will not
be able to successfully nurse unless she has and uses all these things? I
like the coupons for the yoga, mom and tot classes, the free copy of
Mothering (or some other breastfeeding/family-friendly) magazine, and other
such products that promote family togetherness, etc.
Breastfeeding sends a message, too. We should be ensuring we are sending
the right one.
