If I remember correctly, Hain Celestial foods company was bought out by a
large, conventional food manufacturer several years ago. I think it was
Kraft Foods. Basically though, in their press release they specifically
state that this product is for the organic consumer market, but is still a
formula for newborns. So, they are violating the WHO code. I have known
some vegans who think that for baby to be vegan he/she should be fed soy
formula (a plant-based food) rather than even breastfed (an animal milk).
There is an organic "toddler" formula that has been on the market for
several years called "Baby's Own". Their packaging states that it is for
infants over one year when mother cannot be there to breastfeed. I guess
it is nice to be able to tell mothers who have to supplement for medical
reasons that there is a product out there that may meet higher ingredient
standards than conventionally processed formulas, but I do not like the
implication that organic formula is somehow better than conventional
formula. It is still artificial baby milk.
