I'm musing over the "better mother" etc concepts and thinking about
something I heard at the US Breastfeeding Committee conference. Don't
remember who, how or where - but the idea was, because breastfeeding is a
"one-feeder system", the mom picks up on vry subtle differences in the baby
long before it would happen in a multiple feeder system. They were quoting
an MD at a hospital who talked about how breastfeeding decreased the
incidence of spinal meningitis in infants. It was a real "aha" moment for me
and it has encouraged me to keep on encouraging the moms in my groups about
what attentive and smart moms they are!
