Please Help! I am a newer lactation consultant & need help: I have a 27
y.o. primip with a apx 25 week premature infant who is now 2 weeks of
age. She had a concurrent molar pregnancy. She is pupmping every 2 hours
during the day & had been pumping every 2 hours at night too. She is now
pumping apx 8 -10 X/day.at night also. She still expresses only 2 ml of
milk per expression. She uses a hospital grade electric pump &
understands how to use it. Her HCG level is now 1500 (which I believe is
between a 6 & 10 week of pregnancy level). She will probably need to begin
chemo because of this & she is very concerned that she will not have any
saved milk for her VLBW infant. Is it because of her high HCG level that
her progesterone won't go down & her body thinks she is still pregnant &
are causing the receptors sites to be clinging to human placental
lactogen? So that she won't produce milk? What advice should I give?
She is under the care of an oncologist & an OB. THANK YOU.
