  Hi All

Can anyone help me? I need some guidelines when working out the calorie content of expressed milk versus formula. At the hospital where I work there is a guidelines printed on the wall how much formula is required for small for dates and term babies. this guidelines are also being used when working out how much breast feed babies need. example: babies not feeding effectively, nsogastric feeds, using ebm for top-ups when needed.
I looked after a woman to-day who baby born at 36.3 days, now 3 days not going to the breast and requiring ebm top-ups working from the guidelines. I worked out that the baby needed 42 mls per top-up. consider the capacity of the baby stomach. I am concerned that I dont have the correct information to give mothers and the staff.

Thankyou in advance for any help
