To all the cabbage queens,
After reading my initial cabbage post, I realized I should have expounded more on what the heck I was talking about!
<< I have found in my practice that when cabbage leaves are used to
reduce
"engorgement" the milk supply is significantly reduced, and/or never
comes
back!
Hence, I am very cautious about suggesting the use of cabbage leaves
unless it is for cessation of lactogenesis.>>
Let me rephrase:
In my outpatient practice, I have seen many-a-mom with low milk supply issues for no good obvious reason! It has been my humble experience to discover that in many of these cases, cabbage was recommended and used with reckless abandon by these poor moms early in their stage two lactogenesis experience, and danged if the milk didn't return! It is definitely a case of "be careful what you wish for..."
I totally agree with Jan that NOTHING takes the place of moving the milk out with effective and frequent stimulation from the get go.
Wish I could've been at the cabbage discussion, too!
Hugs......
Sandey
