Catherine posits:

<<Could this be a case of gigantomastia complicated by abcesses? The two
inch wound is consistent with a huge abcess that burst and drained at
the surface of the breast.
Poor mom. I'd want her seen by a breast specialist, asap.>>

Exactly what I was thinking, Catherine. I've had one mom like that in my
practice -- the nurses wanted me to see her because her nipples were flat!!!
That wasn't half the problem. I wonder too if there isn't another abscess
brewing on the right breast -- along with a mastitis. One would think that if
she has been on Keflex for months that the physician would try something
else!!

Unfortunately there isn't too much in the literature about hypermastia. The
newest edition of Lawrence has a lot more in it than the 1999 edition which
had one paragraph. But there isn't too much known about it.

Good luck -- and a virtual hug to this young mom. How miserably
uncomfortable she must be.
