I agree with you, that if you are that concerned about a smidge of
alcohol in your breastmilk then you shouldnt drink anything, BUT... there
are also those who might choose not to breastfeed because they know they
want to be able to have wine every night, or a margarita when they go out
to eat. Or on the flip side, I have had moms call me who have been
pumping and dumping for 2 days because of one beer. (!) I also know some
fathers who would probably feel better if they "knew" it was totally out
of the milk.
I also brought up to them that hopefully it doesnt create a
monster ... having moms drinking more than they normally would, knowing
they just have to do a simple test to check it. I know it is a stretch,
but in my mind I compare it to stem cell research - how on the one hand,
it could save many lives, but on the other, it could lead to genetic
engineering of the "perfect human". How it could certainly lead to misuse!
It will be interesting to see how all their studies come out.
