This is anecdotal, but I have heard from psychotherapists and know of at
least one case where Paxil caused psychosis and suicidal ideation where none
existed before. I just did a Google search for Paxil and psychosis and found
similar information. I'd push for Zoloft if allopathic medicine is the route of
choice. Personally, I think antidepressants are overused and there are effective
alternative therapies for depression, especially for breastfeeding moms.
Years ago, I heard a psychiatrist speak who said we've no idea what effects on
the developing brain even small amounts of psychotropic drugs have, long term
studies of this just haven't been done (following babies into adulthood and
beyond). I remember her saying she wouldn't be popular with the audience (LC's,
etc) but she would recommend weaning from breast if mom was on psychotropic
meds. Too much pill popping in our society, the quick fix. Not to say, someone
who is suicidal or just can't function may need medication, there always will
be a time and place for needed drug therapies. Not everyone who is depressed,
though, needs medication. Just my two cents.
