"Katie Couric interviewed a doctor after the news part and when asked what families could do to lessen the development of allergies, he stated first that breastfeeding was a major deterrent as well as the nursing mother avoiding dairy, peanuts, tree nuts."
Hi All,
I am always disappointed that there is a cavaet with the breastfeeding advice. I do not think that all nursing mothers need to avoid the above, and that type of advice will diminish the mothers who breastfeed. The myth about bland, non spicy foods have caused many women to give up. While the doctor did mention breastfeeding, was it exclusive breastfeeding? And again, with the medical model here in the USA, there is ALWAYS advice for one in a zillion that impact the overall public health of others. These extremes always get lip service. I am not in any way diminishing the girl's death. I am just hoping instead to get a full course meal fed to me instead of just the entree when I get breastfeeding information.
Thanks for listening.
Pam.
