I heard back from the author of the article.
Thanks for your letter. The data did suggets that some women (about 20
percent)
who failed to breastfeed felt they could have suceeded with professional
help.
Most women, however, did not feel this, or decided for a particular reason
that
it was best for them to formula feed. My conclusion is that while women do
need
proper support - not simply to be told they should breastfeed - use of
formula
neds to be accepted as a legitimate aspect of infant feeding. Until it is,
women will feel they way our study identified.
