It is certainly VERY possible to have this occur. A newborn is always at
risk for a mucous plug.If the infant is not positioned properly either,
with the chin tilted toward the chest,the respiratory status could be
compromised as well. I have personally seen a baby turn blue from both
mucous plugs as well as from the position I mentioned above.
That's one reason why vigilance in that first hour or two after birth is
VERY important.
