Just couldn't pass up sharing this irony. When I went to the Boston Globe
site for the article about pacifier use proposed by AAP's SIDS prevention
guidelines, near the bottom of the article was a sidebar from Google re "like"
references. One of the sites mentioned was "Proven baby sleep system,"
(www.SleepSense.net). Curiosity got the better of me, and lo and behold, the site is a
treasure hold of enticement for weary, sleep-deprived parents. The site owner
and "sleep expert" has her BA in psychology which she touts as a firm
credential for her expertise in infant sleep. So I got to thinking that my daughter,
who will have her undergraduate degree in psych (which she fully realizes
won't get her very far so her MSW will soon follow), could just skip her graduate
studies and go into the "baby sleep business" and charge $250 per visit, like
the above mentioned lady, only my daughter could teach safe co-sleeping.
Afterall, she shared my bed for many years, so she's an expert, too.
Another irony about this site appearing with the article about SIDS
guidelines is that a photo on the site shows an infant sleeping prone on what appears
to be a pillow, or at least, very bunched sheets. Sorry for this very
tongue-in-cheek post, but I couldn't resist it, even though I waited to simmer down
until this morning, having read all this last night.
