Paradoxically, being young and healthy with a good immune system can be 
deadly with a pandemic flu. The immune reaction is what actually killed 
healthy people in their 20s and 30s in the 1918 pandemic...the "cytokine 
storm" destroyed the lungs. (Cytokines are one of the signalling 
molecules released by white blood cells in the course of fighting 
invading organisms.) That's not to say you are out of the woods if you 
are debilitated. The elderly and chronically ill who catch flu usually 
succumb to pneumonia.
