BOTTLE-FED babies are more likely to have high levels of harmful bacteria in
their stomachs than those who receive breast milk, according to
controversial new research by Scots scientists.

Formula milk led to an increase in the number of sulphurous bacteria in
infants' stomachs, which could contribute later in life to serious
conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome.

 Microbiologists at Dundee University also found that bottle-fed babies had
fewer probiotic bacteria, the 'friendly' organisms that can aid digestion,
than those given breast milk.
