Kathy when you wrote the above statement, you and I are talking about
different things.
When I talked about problems with weighing and scales I was talking about
the hospital and then onto the pedi's office.
Babies are weighed many times in the hospital, sometimes more than once a
day. This data in of itself does not tell you anything. What one needs to do
is to take the whole picture: how often is the baby feeding, is there
swallowing noted, is there any separation of mother and baby, and if there is
separation how much, how many wets and stools is the baby having each day? There
are many more again, I am talking now about the newborn.
I liked what Jay said on his sight. I am concerned with the clinician who
looks only at the weight gain and loss. Weighing the baby has a place but it
is not the only thing that should be looked at.
