Are you sure that it's the epiglottis that is missing, and not the
uvula? A baby missing an epiglottis is vulnerable to aspiration, and I'd
rather see her using a Haberman feeder than a cup.
If the uvula is missing and there are only 2 buds, this could mean that
there is a bifid, underdeveloped uvula, which is usually associated with
a submucous cleft palate. The clicking could be due to the cleft. Is
there any nasal regurgitation of milk? Any feeding induced apnea?
The nipple injury sounds very severe, and sounds like it could be caused
by a strong tongue thrust. this is a very abnormal movement. This baby
needs a good workup, at least genetics, neurology, and feeding. Thrush
makes tissue weaker ("friable") and can increase the potential for
damage when there is trauma from the baby's tongue or jaw.
