My most alarming personal "experiment" was with "Cathy," a dairy farmer. Her
baby was a screamer, and just miserable. By 3 months, he could crawl across
the room, writhing in misery, screaming the entire way. Cathy and I had
spoken extensively about removing dairy from her diet, but she wouldn't
budge. At 6 months, we got together, and her baby was a new child. He was
smiling, no longer crawling, happy, just a lovely little boy. The
difference? She had taken dairy out of her diet. She was pleased with her
new child.
She came back at 7 months with a screaming, writhing, miserable child. What
happened? She thought the non-dairy diet was "too hard", her in-laws who
owned the farm they worked did not believe dairy was the problem, and her
pediatrician believed the diet was nonsense.
She's since had 2 more children, all miserable. Thankfully, she has found a
new group of friends.
Best wishes from rainy Ohio,
Heather "Sam" Doak

How about citing the AAP study called "Effect of a Low-Allergen Maternal
Diet on Colic Among Breastfed Infants: A Randomized, Controlled, Trial" in
the December 7, 2005 issue of Pediatrics??? It's available at
http://www.pediatrics.org/cgi/content/full/116/5/e709.
Can't wait for him to read THAT!!!
